Health and Fitness: Why Is It Important To Me?

While I’m sitting here thinking about the state of health and fitness in my community, I decided to share with you all the reason health and fitness is important to me.

As I look around, I see so many people that are suffering with many different health issues.  Add that to the fact that the residents here in south Louisiana that live along the Mississippi River have the highest risk of catching cancer in the nation, health and fitness is of extra importance to me.


Confidence To Overcome Adversity

One reason that health and fitness is important to me is because I love it.  Not only does it give you strength, energy, and a healthier life, but the feeling that you get when you overcome a mental or physical challenge gives you the confidence to be able to overcome any adversity in life.

As you achieve more and more of your health and fitness goals, you start to realize that you really can achieve anything that you put your mind to.


The Feeling Of Accomplishment

Another reason that health and fitness is important to me is because of the feeling that I get when I achieve one of my health and fitness goals.  I can clearly remember the first time that I was able to bench press 225 pounds.  I was so excited that I didn’t want to leave the gym.  

There was a time when I never thought that I would be able to bench press 225 pounds and now I can bench press over 300 pounds. 

Not only did I accomplish increases in my strength but my body also changed.  For the majority of my life, I was a fairly thin guy with very little muscle mass.  I can recall one day looking in the mirror in the gym and really taking notice of how my body had changed.  I think that was the exact moment that the gym bug bit me.



Longevity is probably the most important reason that health and fitness is important to me.  I know that I can not control when God decides to call me home, but I will do whatever I can to live as long, as healthy, and in as great physical condition as I can.

With 4 kids, I would love to be able to see them have families of their own one day.  I often envision myself going to the park with my future grand children and still being able to play sports and run around with them.
